It eliminates the need for the carabiners on the straps, but the quick adjust and release still works like the older system. There is a bit of a learning curve in getting in and out of the hammock as well as how much or little to inflate the pad. However, you get what you pay for and if it's a really comfortable nights sleep that you're after then it's worth the money. I'd say the 3x3 tarp is adequate especially when used in a diamond formation along the ridgeline as picture below - The XL tarp would be a good choice if you were expecting some really serious weather, otherwise I'd recommend the 3x3.In terms of comfort, the Amok is top notch. It's worth bearing in mind that extra weight will be added with the air mat, however, unless you're travelling in warm climates you will need an under blanket for a traditional hammock so the extra weight and volume isn't that much. I am 5 foot 10 inches and am wondering if the extra room is a benefit for a person my size. Well it depends, the Amok isn't cheap at a cost of around £185, and that's before you add a suitable air mat and a tarp, so more like £300 for the complete set up, possibly more if you opt for the Amok 'Borg' tarp over the DD 3x3. The Amok Draumr 3.0 Hammock is oriented at a 90 degree angle to its suspension system. Horizontal chambers will not provide the structure needed to support the hammock, let alone a person sleeping in it.
