If the characters in the film were acting like smart people, then there would be no plot. While the series kind of loses it in later installments (part 3 is still decent, 4 slightly below that), the original is amazing. slowly building suspense masterfully engineered by Oren Peli and very truthful down-to- Earth acting make that movie a must-watch for anyone who cares for the horror

Anyway, the movie is not really all that scary per se, but it a good job at developing its own Mise-en-scène with overall dark vibes in otherwise normal suburbia. I love this movie. The film was enjoyable, but I think of it more like a rental film rather than a buy the Blu-ray or DVD sort of film. Did the hype kill the movie? General jump scares (just of a different kind by unseen forces) and a fear of the unknown rule the film throughout. There is no way anybody would talk to me like a child and boss me around in the way that guys girlfriend does.

I don't care for power hungry females and gutless dudes who kiss their girlfriends feet after being screamed at. The movie was a cult phenomenon and terrified audiences back in 2009. It's not about scaring you in the moment, but later when you're home alone in the dark and you hear a door creak... and you have that little moment of panic.

I don't usually go for movies that are designed to look like they were home videos. I watch a lot of horror movies and normally I would really have liked this one. This movie would have been much scarier, creepier if I hadn't had any expectations, if I hadn't read any reviews.
