Released in 1969 it was a mix of a crime heist story, a comedy, and 60s swag starring Michael Caine as the criminal mastermind Charlie Croker. Got the kids it for Christmas and they love it. The 1st half is VERY S-L-O-W, because they get too involved with setting up the details of the heist. His friend planned the job but was killed by the mafia for doing so. It is gripping all the way through, there is not a single dull moment. He was an actor, known for Totally different to any of the Fast and Furious films as its much more stylish, classy and still has the best car chase to date (with no overloaded and impossible CGI involved!!) Son is very into Top Gear and anything car related so he absolutely loved the car chase. If you like to make up your own ending, this movie may be for you. I had never seen the original Italian Job, (only the Charlize Theron remake) and I can truthfully say that this is light-years ahead of it's counterpart. A film of daring and comical scenes based on a planned raid in Italy where the brilliant Michael Caine and his mob succeeds in robbing gold bars from a large National Bank and make their getaway in Mini Cars, and a single deck coach which they had loaded with gold bars, so much so that the quantity and weight of the gold put the bus off balance as it negotiated the bends of the alps, causing it to partly go over the edge and remain there in a balancing act. It stars Michael Caine in one of his most iconic perfomances. It's definitely my favourite film,.

It is hard to accept that this film is now celebrating its 50th Anniversary, it is still as fresh today as it was all those years ago when I was nobbut a lad, as they say in Yorkshire. Then, in 1969, Stanley was cast as Coco, one of the robbers in The Italian Job, which starred Caine.

I saw this many years ago and decided it was worth a re-run. The real action begins @ about 50 minutes into the film.
